Hair Texture

Curly hair, don’t care? Whether Caucasian, Latinx, Afro-textured or wavy no type of curly hair is the same or have the same needs. The deciding factors in deciphering your hair’s needs come down three factors namely porosity, elasticity and curl variance.

Let’s unpack what this means:

  • Porosity

This is how much moisture your hair is able to retain. How to establish this? Simply dip the ends of your hair in a glass of water and see if it floats, sinks or stays in the middle. If it floats it is non-porous and needs a richer type of product, if it sinks it takes liquids easily and needs water-based product.

  • Elasticity

Elasticity refers to the ability of your hair to “bounce back”, the less elastic the more moisture it needs. But don’t reach for oil-based products that simply lie on top of your wet hair stopping moisture from being absorbed; reach for a water-based styling cream instead.

  • Curl Variance

It is possible to have two curl types on one head of hair, simply use a stronger, richer styling product on curlier sections. Sometimes two product types are better than one in giving thirsty curls a lift.
